Alas !!! Hype Prevails

**SPOILER AHEAD , DON"T BLAME ME LATER !!**

And So it has ended FINALLY.I couldn't think of posting this review without letting out the plot details so anyone who is interested in reading book 7 should stop reading this review right now.

The Book started off at a very high pace with the 'dark lord" and his humble servants beating up people in order to find out the location of a certain boy named harry potter. :D and then i thought everything was happening too fast , things strated changing very fast and people attacking from here and there.

Then for afterwards for a long period of time all the things involved around the troubleseeking trio, and in that period i particularly didn't like certain repetation of same pharse's over and over For Ex : Hermione telling harry to close the link between his mind and voldy's. I suppose that line was repeated almost 3 times. Although i liked the characters of ron , herminone themselves , i thought the friendship shown between those 3 was good.

But as the plot started to unfold things started falling into place as if the gods themselves have shown them the way , there were too many coincidences and cliches.And then she introduced the plot of deathy hallows and a stupid fairy tale to go along with it.What i don't understand about this is just one thing : WHY ? IMHO i thought the deathly hallows didn't serve any purpose and just helped to fill in some more pages.

Halfway through i started thinking maybe , just maybe this book is going towards a different ending( although my friends had already told me that they were disappointed) but then the Chapters of Prince's tale and King Cross dashed all my hopes. How could she just take the easiest way out, cmon after all this hype about killing people and after so many , all she could find was THIS ending.Especially in king's cross chapter she bought back albus to give all the answers and Prince's tale snape got himself freed of all his guilt and became the good guy , i mean albus telling snape to kill himself could have been prediceted even by a num-skull who has read the previous book.

And the way voldermort , THE greatest dark wizard of all time, the DARK LORD himself blah blah got killed was simply "mindblowing"

IMHO all the books that preceeded Goblet of fire are just as a result of hype created around it and a marketting gimick.I really don't think order of phoneix needed to be 700 odd pages long , she filled in all the fillers she could find just so the book got longer and more importantly costlier.And after contemplating some more into this i think she could as well as written Book 7 after book no. 4 or 3 itself. All's well that ends. !!


PS: Harry potter is not real, i just hope i don't get beaten up by my fellow "loyal" potter fans.

This is Unusual !

I just can't bulive that i'm writing a blog entry while there is sunlight.Today i woke up at 8 and that too in the morning mind you ! And i'm awake in the morning hours from 9-1. i have a very faint distant memory of this period of time when i am at home.

Have used up most of time since then to write the post below this , which i orginally posted at mouthshut dot com ( which btw is a very ironic name for a site where everyone just doesn't seem to keep their mouths shut) while listening to the debut album by Wolfmother ; Hell yeah old school heavy metal is back. Damn good album. Then as i waited for my friends to log onto orkut, i listened to some more music. And then the usual chitchat and scrapping on orkut started and as a proof of the kinda rubbish i usually chat with my "dear" friend dAtta here's few scraps for your viewing pleasure only :D ::

MY Director's Special

What follows is a list of my favourite Movie Director's , and you may or may not agree with the list but nonetheless this list will provide you a list of brilliant movies which you must watch at all cost(i.e if you haven't done it already). SO here it goes ( The following list is in no particular order) :

I) Stanley Kubrick :
This guy was simply way ahead of his times.For Ex. in his movie The Killing (1951) he had used the non-linear style of story-telling which was later made famous by tarintino in the 90's.He has made some movies which has influenced some of the best directors of recent times.He has made movies in wide spectrum of genres viz war,sci-fic,horror,ultra-violent.

Essential Viewings : The Killing(1951),Paths Of Glory(1957),Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb(1964) [ This is one of the most hilarious movies i have ever seen in my life ] , A Clockwork Orange(1971), Full Metal Jacket(1987)

II] Coen Brothers :
They are THE master of Black Comedies.They have got some of the best written scripts in their movies and they somehow extract brilliant performances from their actors.Many of their movies have metaphorical aspect in them, and may not be understood well by the "pop-culture" kinda crowd(Refer :Barton Fink,The Hudsucker Proxy). I enjoy black comedies and intelligent cinema , i have loved almost their every movie , because of the subtle humor in their movies.I would really recommend all of you to watch their movies if you like to laugh out loud at something other than slapstick comedies.

Essential Viewings:Blood Simple,Fargo,The Big Lebowski,O Brother Where Art Thou,Barton Fink,The Hudsucker Proxy,Miller's Crossing.

III] Christopher Nolan :
This guy caught my attention when i first watched Memento, that flick was simply amazing,it blew me away completely with it's unusual way of storytelling.Insomnia was also very good directed movie.I also loved what he did with Batman Begins and how he gave that movie a (much needed) dark overture.AND then he made The Prestige which again has a very non-linear way of storytelling involving magicians, a very different storyline.

IV] Guy Ritchie :
Some of THE best witty lines in movies are written by him.His Movies can be watched over and over and over again, and the best part is that it gets better with repeated viewings.Lock,Stock,And Two smoking barrels,and Snatch are my favourite con/Robbery/Black comedies i have ever seen.You never know when the scene changes from a guy making joke about something and getting his hand chopped off in the next scene.His movies are VERY VERY funny and violent at times. Special Mention to his movie Revolver over here because like his earlier movies this one also has killer lines but along with it has a underlying metaphor which simply with mess up with your mind.

V] Steven Spielberg:
Well i can't say that i have watched all of his movies but i have added him onto this list coz of 2 reasons : Schindler's List & Saving Private Ryan. I absolutely enjoyed these two epics he made.The way he made Schindler's list was amazing and the attention to detail in Saving Private Ryan was mind blowing. The war scenes were too good.

VI] Martin Scorsese :
Martin Scorsese + Robert DeNiro=Magic.
Has made remarkable movies in which he has extracted some of the finest acting from deniro.Just watch Taxi Driver or Raging Bull and you'll know what i'm talking about.

VII] Darren Aronofsky :
This guy has a different way of putting things.It hits you like a bullet train.Some of the scenes in RFAD are etched in my mind along with the haunting music.RFAD has to be in my list of fav. of movies.It was one of the most depressing movie i have EVER seen in my life and it was brilliant. The fountain also had a very different concept and was very beautifully shot.

IX] Francis Ford Coppola :
Well i HAD to add the godfather himself to my list.Period.

So HE makes my list complete.I don't think there is much to say about this guy than what all has been said before, though i still can't forgive him about how he killed Grindhouse with his Death-Proof

Not Your Average Thriller(And that's Good)

David Fincher (director of Fight Club,Se7en) is back with his 2nd attempt into Crime thriller genere.

The movie is based on books authoerd by Robert Graysmiths bout the real life notorious Zodiac,a serial killer who terrorized San
Francisco with a string of seemingly random murders during the 1960s
and 1970s.

Robert Graysmith( Jake Gyllenhaal) is a cartoonist in a leading newspaper which gets a series of letters by a unkown person claiming to be the responsible for the killings of a young couple and demands that his letters along with his ciphers to be printed in the newspaper else he would go on a killing spree.

Paul Avery( Robert Downey Jr ) plays the crime reporter who slowly gets invovled in the case and tries to solve the case along with the police department.Inspector David Toschi( Mark Ruffalo ) and Inspector William Armstrong( Anthony Edwards ) have been assigned the case of the zodiac killer.
What follows is a series of investigations,flase leads and dozens of suspects and case which goes on for several years leading to frustration among many officers.As time goes by Robert Graysmith who used to follow this case for his own sake decides to take upon his shoulder about finding out the identity of the zodiac killer.

This is not a average hollywood crime thriller, this is based upon the actual police case files and shows accurately the frustration which must be going on inside the minds of people involved with it as the case drags on for more than a decade.David Fincher deserves all the credit of making a tight thriller in which everything goes on with the flow, the flim gets tiring in between as it is of long duration but fincher manages to get back the atttention of the audiance with some brilliant scenes

But a major credit should go the actors.Jake Gyllenhaal plays his charcter with a certain nerdiness and obbsession which makes him fun to watch.He has matured as a actor from his Donnie Darko days.Mark Ruffalo who plays this dedicated and worked detective with a dash of humor is brilliant.Robert Downey Jr(he looks very different) in his small role adds his witty touch instantly.

This movie correctly potrays the chronological order of the zodiac case.As an audiance i started to feel equally paranoid and confused as the detectives would have felt during those years.This a dialouge-driven thriller which is certainly a bit boring at some parts but in all is a brilliant movie in itself.This may not be David Fincher’s best but it is still great.

The Day After

Well i guess things sometimes figure out themselves, what seemed to be a big mistake yesterday is somewhat alright now , or at least i feel it's alright now.Whatever.

You live,You learn,You make the same mistake again,You learn,You keep on making the same mistakes over and over again,You are stupid,I'm stupid.

WHEN IT ISN'T LIKE IT SHOULD BE

Sometimes everything in your life seems to be going perfectly as you want it to be, but then suddenly out of nowhere you do something that changes it all and before you realize life is complicated again.You blink and then everything changes for better or worse.It's almost like there is some unknown force that makes you do those things even if you have never even thought about doing that.
You think and you think about how you would lead your life in the coming year,month or even day but then it doesn't always work like that.You decide that you won't think much about anything and just go ahead and do what you like but then be prepared to face the consequence if that thing doesn't work out.

"IDA Scott Taylor wrote: 'Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.'"

But there are times when you live in the present and still mess up things so badly that it becomes a bleak future and past worth forgetting. Sometimes a moment stuns us as it happens. And we know that this instant is more than a fleeting image. We know that this moment, every part of it, will live on forever.

There are days when you even surprise yourself by doing something that changes the way you interact with someone and which decides how it's gonna be after that moment.

Today was one of those days for me.

Terminally Bored !

This has been my state for past 2 days now.Been at home for past two days, today i could have gone out to meet friends @c1 but woke at 1.30 in the afternoon and then felt lazy enough to stay at home and get bored instead.

Watching death note ( a Japanese anime series) these days along with some movies at random but haven't completed one.Saw Garden State on Star Movies today, AGAIN for Nth. no. of time now and still can't get enough of it.

Reading books at random mainly 1984 it's an amazing book.I think most of you might have heard and read this one, for those who haven't get your copy today of both book and the movie. Essential reading and viewing.

Listening to porcupine tree's "Fear of a blank planet " : The lyrics in this album are so superb, and applicable in today's age. IMHO,their music in this album is kinda mixutre of pink-flyod and tool.

Lately my mood has been kinda down , for some reason which is unknown to me.Sometimes i get in this shell of mine where i feel all alone, and i feel like staying that way in that period of time.I think i should spend more time reading books now, they occupy my mind and also provide good food for thought. Sometime when you sit hours at a time watching the scrap counter in orkut stuck at one place(not that it matters if it's moving) , you start feeling sick,you start feeling empty, if i was another person who was looking at me i would tell myself
" Go Get a Life "

The Review : Live Free or Die Hard AkA Die Hard 4.0

Willis is back and How !! I was pretty skeptic about this movie at first , but when i saw the reviews and some of friends also had nice things to say about the movie, it got my interested.

So finally thanks to hutch tue. i saw this movie yest @ 65 bucks -imax.

The Plot : Continuing the same tradition of earlier movies in the die hard series , mclane is in the wrong place at the wrong time. A group of "cyber-terros" have hacked into the fbi cyber branch and they send a search team to locate all the hackers and so john mclane is given the responsibility to bring in a geek but the bad guys are out to kill all of the geeks who were involved in supplying the source codes for various things..........anywhoo the plot is not important nor the (lack of) technical jargon they give in between.

It's all about old-school action , and hell lot of it. Full packed with action sequences and some killer lines by willis makes it a paisa vasool flick to watch. Leave your brains at home , coz the movie does become silly at some points (refer : the fighter jet plane sequence) but somehow i enjoyed the action. Willis is damn cool in the movie along with his sidekick whatever his name is. The baddie is also fine.

I would give it a 3 outta 5. Yippee-ka-yay-mofo.

The Recap

Back to bloggin once again , after a month and few days. I had thought of various posts to write during the last month but somehow didn't feel like typing. Everytime i thought of typing something i was like let it be , maaf. Thinking of writing a post bout exams getting over or colllege. lets see.bored for now.

Spidey is a Sissy !

Saw this non-sense of a movie they call spiderman at adlabs,vashi today for 50 bucks and man it ain't even worth that. I don't quite remember when was the last time i had seen such a silly and childish movie which bored me to sleep and let me tell you i have seen many viz tarararaaaaa pumpum , et all .

The "Plot" of the movie is still the same. I can't even differentiate between the three movies now.There is this parker guy( read : gay) who is always messed up on the personal front.He just can't get it right with that MJ girl (read :aunty) and even rightly so.

For ex. there is this scene where he is about to propose to her in the restaurant and the girl is in a bad mood coz she just got kicked outta broadway. She is saying that she doens't feel well and all that crap. To which he replies oh its ok, i know how u feel , even spiderman gets to hear bad things from people and what not. I was wishing she would take a iron rod and smash open his head then and there itself saying "digg this mofo"

Or this other scene , where spiderman is swinging around the buildings( as usual) and tagging people , yo - yo and all that shit , looking gay as ever. and then kisses another girl like he had kissed that other girl in the 1st movie in front of her. again i was like iron rod- kill him , kill him.For the sake of humanity kill this gay superhero.

All the same "villans" sand something guy , then there is this other black spidey as if one wasn't enough. When i come to think of it i kinda liked this black spidey much more than his gay counterpart. Nothing new happens in this movie what so ever. villians rampaging the city , spidey saves the day(along with his amnesiac friend goblin jr.) in the end and comes out alive and so and so forth.

I can go on forever cursing the movie but i would like to conclude on the following note :

I can't decide which movie was more boring and stupid : DHOOM 2 or Spiderman 3 ????

The Last Last Viva !

Today's one was just a formality of sorts. Sir is gonna give marks based on our faces and more importantly his "mood".So even though i gave no response to all the questions he asked me , still when we came out we were just glad that it's over. When sir got tired of asking ques , he said :
" jao, haan jao.Ho gaya.kuch padh ke nahi aaye the na. jao exam mein padh ke aana * we just got up and turned* warna fail ho jaoge "

I am not in the mood.......

..........to study for mon's dwm viva,so i am writing this post.Just not getting in the flow to start with anything tonite.But it's not that i have anything special to do also, but still.Ab toh jo kal hoga utna kar ke jaonga.Not that anyone else is studying much. Everyone must be bored of vivas or atleast i sure hope that they are.

Got to try sardar's 30gig ipod when i went for a late night stroll with my friends.I absolutely love that piece man.Great video quality and he had some of my phavourite songs,so i had a nice time listening to them on his ipod And 5.5Gen ipod is much thinner that it's predecessor.

Currently listening to American Hi-Fi 's Debut album.Had bought their tape few years back,it was one of my fav. tapes to listen to in car.It has some great alt. rock songs my favs. being A fool for you,Flavour of the week , safer on the outside,Another Perfect Day. Try it out.Nice album.

Currently Reading "A Fine Balance" -By Rohinton Mistry .I really like the character development in this book.The way he has given the background of all the concerned characters.I have heard this is a very tragic and sad book.So i am proceeding with caution,and by now signs are very clear.He doesn't sugarcoat things.The future seems bleak for the characters.But it's been a great read till now.Will give a complete review when i am finished with it.

The Second Last Viva (which almost took forever to finish)

Today officially i waited for the longest time EVER to give my viva.Reached college by 9.30 and gave my viva at around 5.30,only coz of my stupid decision not to give it with manas in the first group itself and it would have been over by 10.30-11.I said I'll give in next group and then that "next" group never seem to come.

3 down,1 to go !!!! Bring it ON !!

Anyhoo Life has been pretty much static in the past week.

Sleeping-Eating-Music-Reading 'A Fine Balance'-cut my hair REALLY short-Reading Few pages from notes and textbooks-Watchin Tv Series on comp or THE simpsons-talking on phone-spent the least amount of time EVER on internet in the past week *note to self : stop doing silly mistakes*-staying at home except for college and ravi's place-celebrated condi's b'day today-laughed like crazy morons while waiting for viva to happen-roamed like a stoner while waiting for viva to happen

The First Last Viva !

And so it begins.The beginning of the end to my last set of vivas in engg.

Woke up today at 7.15 !!! yes you read that right 7fkin15, coz i had to get my journal corrected before 9 in the coll,as vivas were gonna start by 9.So i got ready and left college with ravi by car so as reach "on time".

As we entered the coll at 8.30,we were greeted my one of the lab ass, looking at us in a way which can be best described as sheer mockery.He must have been thinking in his mind "Chalo aaj mam ne inko banaya" .So we came in a near empty coll and met dAtta n others who were stupid enuff to come before me. :D

So as we laughed and made fun of what we had and more importantly what we had not studied, the time stuck 930 and just as we were getting our journal corrected,viva had started.So manas decided to go in the 2nd batch and we(dAtta n I) decided to go in one after that and as luck would have it we ONCE again made the right choice.

Our turn came and dAtta and I rushed in first, and took the place near our internal mam.Luckily for us,external and mam decided to divide the work and we were to be asked ques by our mam.
The process of asking ques started with me and eventually by the end of the viva both of us had answered almost all the answers together, he drew the figure and i explained and when he gave an answer and i controlled my laughter as mam was almost laughing with me.

But we had to be careful not to distract the attention of the external at us. And when we didn't knew a particular topic we both looked at each other at precisely the same instant and that look said many words. To conclude i would say it was a pretty damn good viva,all thanks to our mam and somewhat to us as we didn't exactly kept quite,we answered most of the ques to her satisfaction. MINIMUM input MAXIMUM output.

My Balcony,My Solitude

There is always some place where one wants to go when he feels all stressed out or frustrated or just disillusioned.One such place for me is my balcony.I stay on the 14th floor so the view from my place is something i always cherish.
Sometimes late at night when the world has slept and all the lights have gone dim,i just go and stand watching the view outside,somehow whenever i go there i can see my entire life from there.How many of u can see the things which i see from my balcony , i bet none !!! So what do i see when i am there ?

• There's this nice hill which is right in front of my balcony, and when i am there late at night i can see it's outline against the silent background,it looks so beautiful and even more so during the monsoons, when the clouds cover up the whole mountain or sometimes just a part of it.THAT view is simply fantastic.
• I can see my school,my wonderful school AECS-2 where i have spent 11 yrs of my childhood right from kindergarten to X,where i have grown up,played,studied,laughed, and spent those moments in my life which i won't ever forget.
• I can see those buildings where i went to tutions in 8-10th std:
  
  • Dhawalgiri- Where i used to go for maths tution for 3 yrs till X std.all those time i have spent after school sittting in the building's compound and having fun with my friends before and after the class.Mukho mam for better or for worse its was nice having studied under you.
  • Gulmarg - Where i used to go for hindi tutions for 2yrs in IX and X std. It can hardly be called tution coz it lasted on a average for about 1/2 an hour, but without whom i couldn't have learned all those paryavachi shabd.Srivastava aunty you were simply sweet and wonderful.thank you for teaching us hindi in such a simple manner.
  • Almora -Where i used to go for sci tutions in X and XI std.This tution was my fav tution of them all esp in X std coz there were less no. of students as compared to others and its was so much fun learning over there,nikhil it was really nice studyin with u in those yrs.The time i used to come back late at night was something worth remembering.Thank U fotedar uncle for teaching me phy and chem and helping me get my 94 in sci in X std.
    
• I see those building where i used to stay before on. Everest and Nandadevi. I have got a soft spot in my heart for Everest coz that's always gonna be my FAV building ever.I can't even start to write about the years i have spent in that building and the friends i had made.(maybe in someother post ,someother time). Nanadadevi will be remembered only for varun and khanni & the swing which was in the garden.
• I can almost see my junior college AEJC, where i had spent another 2 yrs of my life.XI was just fun and keedagiri.That was the time when i had almost given up studying.Studyin maths which i had a difficult time understanding on last night study before exams with varun along with a help from a certain "probability" handmade notes.
• I can see the house of my best friend from my balcony.
• I can see the roads where i have taken countless no. of walks in the eve and nights and traveled to-fro school and JC for years now.
• And u know what else i can see,i can see the airport strip.I kid you not.THIS is the 2nd-most important reason why i started loving my balcony.Every night i come and watch planes take-off and land. i can very well see them land right until the time they are on the runway and just seconds after they take-off. I imagine myself in one of those planes few years down the line in search of the other side,where the grass is always green.
• Last but not the least , the most important reason why i love this place , is because i can see myself clearly and not darkly.I can see where i need to be heading in life , i can see what has to be done,somehow all my doubts vanish when i just stand there and look at the world from there.So whenever i don't get sleep or i need to get some peace of mind,u know where to find me : MY Balcony is MY solitude.

My Friend and I

I had this idea the other day about Neerazzz guest writing on my blog and vice-versa. Didnt think much about it really, just gave him a buzz on gtalk and things rolled from there....so here i am writing An Ode to No One, which by the way is the name of a Smashing Pumpkins song that i'm yet to hear.

I've been racking my brains...why do they say brains when everyone has only one?? or do they just say brain and I'm horrible at grammar...Anyhoo I've been thinking about what to post for the past two days. This being a blog belonging to someone else, i thought I'd just write about that someone and a little bit of me as well .Neerazzz i call him....affectionately?? i'm not too sure about that.

We met in 3rd sem, and as fate would have it, me and a certain someone shared the same first name. This actually did absolutely nothing to get us know each other as well as we do now. Gradually we discovered that we had the same awesome taste in films and books and TV series....cds and books were exchanged( some of which i still havent returned) and the monotonous lectures were filled with discussions about our shared interests.
Whats more is that we even hated the same films, series etc.

I remember the first Goa trip when we were all crammed inside this small gypsy, all day long...and looking for Donna Paula, which by the way is totally NOT worth going.

The best discussions i can recall were during the time we used to wait for the aptis results to come out...ohh we used to curse the damn companies and why did didnt find us qualified enough to select. Also we used to hate the fact that we had to dress up in formals every Sunday morning and drag our asses to college for almost a year for some punk-ass HR exec who'd tell us what we weren't and what we should be.

Goa trip part deus was best time we had being miserable...we cursed a lot and then at night cursed some more. We stuck together in face of grave mismanagement and chaos...sab 'bana' ke gaye hum logo ko.

I wish to say that he never change, and always be the way he is...but that would be horrible to say! because like me hes lazy, confused and bored most of the time. So for all of our sake i hope that he change his ways and maybe motivate me enough to do the same.
